Samajwadi Party MP apologises

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI MARCH 6. The Samajwadi Party member, Akhilesh Singh, who threw his coat on the reporters' table in the Lok Sabha amid turmoil over Uttar Pradesh developments, today tendered an unqualified apology to the Speaker, Manohar Joshi.

Shortly before the House rose for the day, the SP member said he was agitated after allegation made against him and had no intention of showing disrespect to the Chair.

Accepting the apology, the Speaker said the member should be careful in future.

Taking exception to the incident, Mr. Joshi had earlier told a meeting of the business advisory committee that Mr. Singh's behaviour was not in keeping with the dignity of the House, sources said.

It is learnt that the Speaker would call a meeting of the leaders of all parties in the Lok Sabha to decide under what provision a discussion could be held in the House on the issue of videotapes showing misuse of MP/MLALADS funds.
