Mehbooba seeks Hurriyat's cooperation

JAMMU MARCH 6. The vice-president of the ruling People's Democratic Party in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, said today that the dialogue process initiated by the Government was a sincere attempt to restore peace in the State.

Nobody would be kept out of the talks and every section should cooperate and not sit on the sidelines, she added.

Talking to The Hindu here, Ms. Mufti said: "We do not have a closed mindset. We want to include everyone having different viewpoints".

Asked about the statement of the former Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, denouncing the visit of the Centre's interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir, N.N. Vohra, to the State as a bad beginning as the separatists' viewpoints had not been accommodated, she said, "Let me convey to everyone that on numerous occasions, both at the State level and the Central level, we have repeated that everyone should join us for talks and not miss this golden opportunity which the people of the State have provided us. Anybody who is interested is welcome to the peaceful resolution of the problem. But, obviously, somebody should be willing to talk and has to come forward to talk".
