Mr. Singh was speaking to presspersons in the State Assembly complex here. Earlier, the State Home Minister, Mahendra Baudh, read out a statement in the House on the issue, ignoring loud protests from the BJP, the main Opposition party. Mr. Singh said he had referred the letter received from the Union Minister for Tourism, Jagmohan, on the issue, to the Dhar Collector with the advice that he should try and evolve a consensus. A meeting of the Dhar district peace committee had been convened by the Collector but it could not help build a consensus. When pointed out that those representing the Muslim community had boycotted the meeting, Mr. Singh said that their stand had been conveyed to the district administration in writing.
