Ford's Ikon sales up

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. Ford India today said that sales of its mid-size car Ikon rose by 7.7 per cent to 3,616 units in February from 3,356 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales fell by 3.6 per cent to 1,403 cars but exports rose by 16.5 per cent to 2,213 cars, the company's Director (Sales), Vinay Piparsania, told PTI.

He said the drop in domestic sales was due to a general slowdown in the automobile industry following customers' expectation of an excise duty cut in the 2003-04 Union Budget.

Ford India also sold 27 units of the luxury car Mondeo during the month.

It imports Mondeo from its parent company's Belgium plant as a fully built unit. — PTI
