Indians may get visas to France

HYDERABAD MARCH 8. There was something to cheer about for the Indian contingent, which is to take part in the International Federation Cup carrom championship to be held in Cannes (France) from March 13 to 15, as also in the French Open at the same venue from March 16.

The officials in the French Consulate (Mumbai), have sent a communication to the members of the Indian carrom contingent to submit some specific documents to get the necessary visas which will enable them to take part in the above events.

The Consulate officials had rejected visas to the three women members--Swarnalatha (AG's Office), S. Appoorwa (LIC), K. Suvarna (student of Koti Women's College)--who hail from the City.

But, with the officials themselves now asking for certificates of employment and an affidavit from each of them and their parents that they would return to their homeland after the event, it is almost certain that the Indian team will take part in the event.

Meanwhile, the players have left for Delhi en route to France as they do not want to be found wanting on time if they were to be intimated at the last minute, according to Mr B.K. Haranath, chairman of the technical committee of International Carrom Federation.
