Steps on to combat foot-and-mouth disease

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry March 9. The Agriculture Minister, A. Namassivayam, has called upon the owners of milch animals to extend cooperation to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare to make the current drive against the foot-and-mouth disease, affecting the animals, a success. Distributing prizes at the annual dog show organised by the department on the Gandhi Thidal here today, the Minister said the incidence of the disease was reported from some parts of Pondicherry. The hesitation by owners to have the animals immunised was the cause for the disease. He said the drive against the disease was being taken up on regular basis.

More than 250 dogs participated in the competition held under 23 categories.
