Letters to the Editor
Sir, "This is not cricket" by Ziya Us Salam (Friday Review, March 7) was an apt comment on the notion that glamour alone can lure the audience. It has rightly pointed out that the TV channel has "reduced the World Cup to a gimmick." Many professions have more or less unspoken dress codes. Channels such as Set Max have all the means to demonstrate their understanding of the codes and accordingly could have planned Mandira Bedi's wardrobe. A simple Indian team T-shirt with a World Cup logo for her certainly would have created the expected response from women viewers. TV channels cannot afford to take their viewers for granted, especially women viewers. The prompt review has clearly voiced the anguish of many women cricket enthusiasts like me.
