New job

Former South Africa coach and England Test batsman Bob Woolmer has been lined up to become the new coach of the West Indies.

Woolmer said on Sunday he has already been interviewed for the job by the Windies national selectors, headed by Viv Richards, in Kimberley, South Africa, last week.

``I had been told the job would soon be vacant and I was asked whether I wanted to submit my CV, which I did,'' Woolmer said.

``I had a two-and-a-half hour meeting with the West Indies selection panel in Kimberley early last week.

``I am not sure what will come of it. It is up to them to call me now. But it goes without saying, for the meeting to last as long as it did means it was encouraging on both sides.''

The West Indies were coached by Roger Harper at the World Cup but even his vast experience failed to guide the 1975 and 1979 champions into the Super Sixes .

Woolmer warned, however, that he would opt for radical surgery on the squad if he was hired. ``The one thing I did make clear was if I was going to coach a national side again I would expect to be able to implement the various techniques that I have developed over the years,'' he said.

Woolmer has also been offered a two-year extension by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to his position as high performance director, working with the associate member countries
