Picketing by rural organisers foiled

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry March 10. About 80 rural organisers of the Department of Rural Development were arrested when they attempted to stage picketing on the Assembly premises here today.

The rural organisers have been on relay fast for more than three weeks seeking improvement in working conditions. A spokesman of their association said the organisers were now being paid a consolidated pay of Rs.1,200 per month. They should be absorbed as daily wage earners.

The rural organisers were working as field staff to implement the anti-poverty programmes of the Government.
