Addressing a press conference here today, Alberto Montanari, Chairman and Managing Director, said these two models signified FIL's entry into the diesel segment. The prices of the vehicles were, however, not revealed. The vehicles come with a 1.9 litre `D-Tech' engine, capable of 63 bhp and 12.2 kgm torque and can comply with Euro III norms. The same engine also powers Fiat's other international models Multipla, Doblo and Punto. While elaborating on the business strategy, Ananda Gupta, director (commercial), said, "The year 2003 will clearly focus on stability and growth. We will direct our energies towards enhanced after sales services, exciting financial tie-ups and schemes, the launch of the diesel range on the 178 platform and the expansion of our dealer network.'' Mr. Gupta said that of the 2.99 lakh cars sold in India last year, 67,000 were diesel cars. The company has enhanced its network to a level of 67 dealers with a plan to increase this to 78 during the current year. It also has in place 100 service points and intends to increase this to 120 in the current year. Also, prices of around 4,000 parts have been reduced and FIL will have a new corporate fleet sales policy in the current year.
