Mr. Patil's warning came after the Minister for Agriculture Marketing, B.S.Patil Sasanur, attacked the Dharwad Deputy Commissioner, while replying to Basavaraj Horatti (Janata Dal-United) during Question Hour. Mr. Sasanur alleged that the Deputy Commissioner himself was against implementing the Raitha Santhe in the district. Mr. Patil assured the House that he would discuss with the Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna, the action to be taken against the officer. Mr. Sasanur said there were 80 stalls in Hubli and many of them were not being used. While some facilities were provided to farmers, not much progress could be achieved due to the non-cooperative attitude of the Deputy Commissioner. Mr. Sasanur said that the officer did not even care to meet him while he was in a meeting along with Mr. Patil in Dharwad recently. The Deputy Commissioner preferred to stay at home rather than attend the meeting which discussed drought, he said. Mr. Sasanur also said that the Deputy Commissioner was disobedient. He said he had written to the Revenue Minister, H.C.Srikantiah, urging him to take action against the officer. The Chairman, B.L.Shankar, asked Mr. Patil to take strict action against the Deputy Commissioner. He said there was a feeling that the Government hesitated to act against IAS officers, while the same leniency was not shown to lower-level officers.
