LTTE pondering options

By V. S. Sambandan

COLOMBO MARCH 12. The LTTE today said it was considering suspending participation in the peace talks as a form of protest against Monday's sinking of one of its merchant vessels by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The chief negotiator, Anton S. Balasingham, said this was one of the ``hypothetical options'' being considered by the rebels.

Emergency landing

PTI reports:

The Sri Lankan military helicopter carrying Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister, Vidar Helgesen, made an emergency landing today on its way to the central town of Kandy, police said. He was on his way to hold talks with the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
