Tamil Nadu
By Our Staff Reporter
Talking to presspersons here, Mr. Ilangovan said if the DMK and the MDMK launched an agitation demanding withdrawal of the POTA, then the Congress would join it. The Congress stand was clear on the POTA. "We have opposed its introduction from the very beginning. But the DMK is organising fast only after some leaders were arrested under the Act," Mr. Ilagovan said. However, ``we welcome the fast.'' He said the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, was arranging extravagant functions in the name of launching welfare schemes. So far, Rs. 25 crores had been spent in the functions held in the State. This amount could have been spent for the welfare of the people. "At a time when Tamil Nadu is reeling under a severe drought, the Chief Minister should concentrate on mitigating the misery of people instead of seeking publicity."
