PMK to oppose coop. mills privatisation

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai March 14. The PMK leader, S.Ramadoss, today urged the Government to give up its attempts to amend the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Societies Act to pave way for privatisation of ailing cooperative spinning and sugar mills.

In a statement here, Dr.Ramadoss appealed to the Government to reconsider its decision "in the interest of the public and the workers." If the Government went ahead with its privatisation plans, the PMK would bring together Opposition parties to jointly oppose the amendment Bill in the Assembly.

He suggested that the Government encourage loss-making sugar mills, which were producing rectified spirit, to use them in manufacture of liquor, instead of supplying them to private liquor companies.
