Announcing the decision, oil companies today attributed the hike to increase in the crude oil price in the international market. However, the prices of LPG and kerosene will remain unchanged. The revised price of petrol in Delhi would be Rs. 33.49 per litre against Rs. 32.10 while diesel would cost 91 paise more at Rs. 21.21 per litre. Petrol in Kolkata would be costlier by Rs. 1.39 at Rs. 35.00 per litre, while the price of diesel would go up by 91 paise at Rs. 23.51 per litre. Prices of petrol in Mumbai and Chennai will be up by Rs. 1.51 at Rs. 38.59 and Rs. 36.39 per litre, respectively. Diesel in Mumbai will be costlier by Rs. 1.09 at Rs. 26.79 per litre while in Chennai, the price would be higher by Re. 1.00 at Rs. 24.28, it said. Oil companies have been increasing the prices continuously for the last four fortnights following an increase in crude oil price from $ 31.67 to $ 32.06 per barrel due to an impending war on Iraq.
