Akademi Fellowship for Panicker

THRISSUR MARCH 15. The Kerala Sahitya Akademi has announced its literary awards for this year. According to a release from the Academy here today, the renowned writer, K. Ayyappa Panicker, has been selected for the Fellowship for his outstanding contributions to Malayalam literature. The Fellowship carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a gold medal, a `ponnada' and a citation.

M.K. Sanu, R. Narendraprasad, S.K. Marar and IKK Menon have been selected for this year's "awards for total contribution to literature''. These awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, a citation, `ponnada' and a citation each, said the release.

U.A. Khader's `Akhorasivam' has been selected as the best novel while P.P. Ramachandran's `Kanekkane' has been selected as the best poem. Sreemoolanagaram Mohan has bagged the award for the best playwright for his work `Amaravathy Treasury'. K.A. Sebastian's `Karkedakathile Kakkakal' fetched him the award for the best short-story.

G. Madhusoodhanan's `Kathayum Paristhithiyum' has bagged the award for the best literary criticism while R. Raveendranath's `Chithrakala Oru Samagra Padhanam' has bagged the award for the best informatics literature. The release said Neelan's `Achan' has bagged the award in the biography/autobiography section and M.P. Veerendra Kumar's `Amazonum Kure Vyakulathakalum' has won the award in the travelogue section.

M.C. Namboodirippad's four-volume `Sasthram Charithrathil' has won the award in the translation section, while Jiji Thomson's `Nothing official', has won the award in the `humour-writing' category. The release said the awards were finalised at the executive committee meeting of the Akademi held here today, and they will be distributed at the annual conference of the Akademi to be held in April.
