Boy dies of asphyxia

CHENNAI MARCH 19. A 12-year-old boy slipped through a narrow opening into an open disused well at Gandhi Nagar in ICF this morning and died of asphyxia. His body was recovered by the fire service personnel after a five-hour operation.

According to police, Shanmugam had stepped off the road to enter an open field. The well, which did not have a compound wall, was located next to the road, and had a small rectangular opening. The boy fell into the well through this hole, and was fortuitously noticed by some other youth passing by. However, he had slipped into the slushy water and died.

Some persons in the locality informed his parents about the accident. Fire service personnel could only pull out his bodywhich was taken to the KMC Hospital.
