Amorous constables get sound thrashing

By Our Staff Correspondent

Two constables who were thrashed by the public in Mysore on Friday for alleged eve-teasing.

Mysore March 21. Two police constables attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) were tied to an electricity pole and thrashed by the public for allegedly misbehaving with women and girls at Gundu Rao Nagar.

The accused, Chikkanayaka and Somanna, were stripped to their pants and tied to the pole before being beaten up. They were suspected to have written vulgar letters to women despite repeated pleas to desist from doing so. They were also warned in the past for passing lewd comments on women. Eyewitnesses said the constables had tried to throw their weight around since they were in the Police Department.

The immediate provocation for today's incident is not clear, though a few residents said it was related to the presence of two women in their house.

However, a few others said that the accused tried to talk a local woman into visiting their house. The Vidyaranyapuram Police arrived on the spot and took the constables into custody.
