Mass murders: DGP's pat for cops

HYDERABAD March 21. The DGP, P. Ramulu, on Friday presented cash awards to policemen of Malkajgiri division in Cyberabad for their "outstanding work'' in nabbing the culprits responsible for the killing of the railway official, B.R. Seth, and three of his family members.

The DGP said that appreciation letters would be given to the Cyberabad DCP (Law and Order), Krupanand Tripathi Ujela, and the Additional DCP (Administration), K. Panduranaga Reddy, who supervised the investigation.

The cash rewards, ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 11,000, were presented to the Malkajgiri ACP, Satyanarayana, Inspectors -- A. Shivaramakrishna (Uppal), K. Kistaiah (Malkajgiri) and V. Vara Prasada Rao (Khusaiguda) -- Sub-Inspectors -- M. Narender Reddy (Ghatkesar), K. Ramesh, Krishnaiah and T.S.A. Prasad (Uppal), M. Pushpan Kumar and V.V. Chalapathi (Malkajgiri), M. Ravi Chandan Reddy and Praveen Kumar Reddy (Khusaiguda), K. Srinath Reddy (Neredmet), A. Sattaiah (Nacharam), Ravinder Reddy (Keesara) - constables -- Somnath, Chand Pasha and Veera Swamy (Malkajgiri), Prabhakar Reddy and Madhav Reddy (Uppal) and Balsingh (Nacharam).

On the progress of the case, Mr. Ramulu said that a special police party would be leaving for Bihar to ascertain the past criminal record of the accused, if any. When asked about reported statement of the doctors of the Gandhi hospital that the injury sustained by one of the accused, Monu Singh, was not caused by bullet, he replied that a clarification would be sought.

The Cyberabad Commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy, was present.
