While one of them will study the claims of two colleges here from Monday to Thursday, the other will study the claims of as many institutions in Challakere and Hosadurga, respectively, from Thursday to Sunday. The team, headed by Saraswati Roy, former Vice-Chancellor, Krishnadevaraya University, Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh, and comprising S. Ravindranath, Head, Department of English, Manonmaniyan Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, and a NAAC representative, will visit the Government Arts College on Monday and Tuesday, and the Government Science College on Wednesday and Thursday. Both the colleges are in the city. The other team would study the claims of the Government First Grade College on Thursday and Friday, and the HPPC Government First Grade College on Saturday and Sunday. The team members will interact with lecturers and other staff, and students and their parents. They will go through the self-study report prepared by each college. The teams will validate the claims of the colleges given in the report through interactions, visits, and verification of documents. They will only try to understand the "collective impact" of the faculty and the ambience on the educational experience of students. It is neither a fault-finding exercise nor an attempt at solving the grievances of colleges. The exercise is aimed at "positive introspection", according to sources. Sources said the Government had asked 33 of the 162 colleges run by it to make their claims for UGC accreditation this year.
