He was received at the gate of the temple by the president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), Kirpal Singh Badungar. Dr. Kalam was presented with a ``siropa'' (robe of honour) and a shawl by the former Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal chief, Parkash Singh Badal. He took a `parikrama' a round of the shrine. Dr. Kalam was also given a ``sword'', a replica of the Golden Temple and a number of religious books at a brief function outside the Information Office of the shrine. ``It is indeed a great spiritual experience to pray in divine Golden Temple. I pay my respect with reverence to the ten Sikh Gurus. My best wishes to all the people of Punjab and the nation,'' he wrote in the visitors' book. Then, the President drove to Jallianwala Bagh where he met the 107-year-old freedom fighter and an eyewitness of the 1919 massacre, Bapu Shingara Singh. He also visited the Durgiana Temple. PTI
