Mob violence
Police opened fire after five persons, including two policemen, were injured in an attack by a stone-throwing mob who tried to snatch away two persons arrested after the World Cup final in Hooghly district on Sunday night.
Trouble started after a drunken mob began lighting crackers and indulging in hooliganism at Bahirgram village after India's defeat in the World Cup, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Headquarters N.C. Ghosh said.
