Inter paper leakage: principal, three others arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM March 24. Four persons, including the Principal of a private junior college, were arrested in connection with the alleged leakage of Intermediate I year Mathematics B question paper at Yellandu today.

The examination authorities said that two students were helped by a lecturer of the Merit Junior College in Yellandu by revealing some bits from the question paper before the commencement of the examination. The observer was suspended from examination duties and action was initiated against another departmental officer in charge of the examination.

The incident did not affect the conduct of the examination at other centres in the district. Arrangements were made for conducting Tuesday's examination as per schedule.

Our Hyderbad Staff Reporter adds:

When contacted, the Commissioner of the Board of Intermediate Education, B. Kripanandam, said the Mathematics lecturer of the private college, Rahamatullah, had been removed from his duty and proceedings launched against him under the Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Practices Act.

The other two Government officials -- observer Abdullah and Mallikarjun -- were suspended by the District Collector, Arvind Kumar, on behalf of the Commissioner. The Collector also removed the Principal of Merit Junior College, P. Lakshman Rao, from his duties as Chief Superintendent of that particular examination centre.

Mr. Kripanandam told The Hindu that he had called for a detailed report on the incident. The Regional Joint Director, Harikrishna Reddy, and the District Vocational Education Officer, Madhukar, would submit the report on Tuesday, he said. If the report established the connivance of the Principal in the incident, proceedings would also be launched against him under the said Act. The Commissioner expressed happiness at the response and immediate action taken by the District Collector in the matter.
