By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD March 24. The Federation of Drug Traders A.P. (FEDTAP) has appealed to the Government for `uniform' application of Value added Tax (VAT) to the entire medicine trade, in terms of uniform rates of taxation, turnover limits, set off rules and exemptions, so as to ensure uniform price of medicine and to avoid confusion.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday, P.Jagadishwar, Honorary General Secretary of the Federation, assured on behalf of 35,000 members that if the suggestions are accepted, the consumer will benefit by way of uniform sale price of medicines throughout the country, and there will be better compliance of VAT.

He also informed the Chief Minister that a meeting of the FEDTAP held recently decided to close retail and wholesale shops on March 25.
