Ensure minorities' safety: Benazir

ISLAMABAD MARCH 24. The former Prime Minister and chairperson of the Pakistan People's Party, Benazir Bhutto, has urged the Pakistan Government to ensure the safety of the minority communities in the wake of public agitation against the Iraq war. She made the call after some minority leaders expressed apprehension that extremist elements might link the Pakistani Christians with the U.S. and the West and cause harm to them.

Christians in Pakistan have condemned the war on Iraq. However, some extremist elements have been calling it a crusade and inciting people to join the `jehad' against the U.S., the party said.
