World Cup champion Viswanathan Anand played out a 1-1 draw against Linares champion Peter Leko of Hungary to maintain his top place. Anand leads this 12-player double round-robin tournament with 10.5 points from 16 games. Morozevich and Israel's Boris Gelfand are in second place with ten points. Three rounds or six games remain to be played in this Euro 193,250 (Rs.1.02 crore) event. Monday is the final free day. The results (round eight): Blindfold: Almasi beat Ljubojevic, Topalov drew Gelfand, Bareev lost to Van Wely, Kramnik lost to Morozevich, Leko drew Anand, Shirov drew Ivanchuk. Rapid: Ljubojevic drew Almasi, Gelfand drew Topalov, Van Wely lost to Bareev, Morozevich beat Kramnik, Anand drew Leko, Ivanchuk lost to Shirov. Combined standings after eight rounds: 1.
