Andhra Pradesh
By Our Correspondent
The department had recently thrown open the resort with a restaurant, some deluxe rooms and some huts recreating the atmosphere of a tribal hamlet to attract tourists. The resort had become popular for visitors from the city and for film shootings. All the structures were blasted to smithereens by a group of 32 armed naxalites who used gelatine sticks. It is said that before this act, they blasted three buses of Ramoji Film City which were returning after a three-day shooting schedule in Farahabad and other places in the forest. The total loss was estimated to be around Rs. 3.5 crores. The naxalites handed over a letter to the crew of the film unit, which was signed by the district committee secretary, Sambasividu. It stated that they had resorted to the destruction in protest against the Chandrababu Naidu Government and also against the US war on Iraq.
