Smooth start to SSLC examination

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE March 24. The first day of the 2002-2003 academic year's SSLC examination conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) went off smoothly on Monday with hardly any reports of copying or other malpractice.

About 7.85 lakh students, including about 3.2 lakh girls, are appearing for the examination in 2,154 centres.

The KSEEB Director, T.M.Kumar, attributed the smooth conduct of the examination to the measures taken by the KSEEB to prevent copying and other malpractice. Prohibitory order had been clamped around 300 metres of the examination centres and this would remain in force till the end of the examination.

Vigilance squads had been constituted and sitting squads had been posted at the centres considered sensitive. Each student had been given a unique registration number.

Any student caught copying would be barred from appearing for two consecutive examinations. Those found passing their answer scripts to other students would be banned for five consecutive examinations. Last year, about 1,750 cases of malpractice were reported.
