Court notice to Raveena Tandon

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM March 24. The Kollam District and Sessions Judge, K. Chanthamarakshan, today issued orders to send notices to Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon and two others for violation of the Copyright Act 1957 on a plea for restraining Ms. Tandon, as producer of the movie, "Stumped,'' from releasing and exhibiting the movie in India and abroad.

The order is on the basis of a petition filed by a student of the Fatima Mata National College here, D. Sajeev. He said that he had written an article under the heading "Njangalodu Kshamikuka'' (Forgive Us) in a vernacular newspaper campus column on July 5, 1999, pertaining to the plight of the family members of the jawans killed in the Kargil war. While this plight goes largely ignored in the media, the ecstasy of the family members of the Indian cricket team is highlighted whenever a match is won. Through the article Mr. Sajeev begs forgiveness from the Kargil martyrs on behalf of the people for worshiping cricket stars by forgetting the soldiers.

He contends that the idea has been lifted from his article and they have no right to produce the movie without his consent.
