Omar blames Jagmohan for exodus of Pandits

By Our Special Correspondent

SRINAGAR MARCH 26. In a new turn of events, the National Conference president, Omar Abdullah, today blamed the former Jammu and Kashmir Governor (now the Union Minister) Jagmohan for the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley.

Mr. Abdullah, who was addressing the party workers here, condemned the massacre of 24 Kashmiri Pandits in Nadimarg and held the Mufti Government responsible for the killings. He demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and action against the erring district administration officials. Recalling the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, Mr. Abdullah said, "People are well aware of how the then Governor, Jagmohan, under an organised conspiracy, facilitated their migration."

The Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was the Union Home Minister at that time, he added.

He said that until the situation improved in the State, there was no meaning in asking the Pandits, who had migrated to Delhi, Jammu and Udhampur, to return. Condemning the U.S. attack on Iraq, he said the U.S. was the biggest enemy of Islam.
