Five-day parole for R.K. Sharma

New Delhi March 26. A Delhi Court today granted five days parole to senior IPS officer R K Sharma, prime accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, to attend his daughter's wedding scheduled for April 20.

The Additional Session Judge, J. M. Malik, allowed Sharma's plea to attend the marriage with stringent condition that policemen in plain clothes will be around him round the clock.

Sharma was given liberty by the court to choose the five days and intimate the same to the authorities at the Tihar Jail, where he is at present lodged in judicial custody on charges of conspiring to murder the scribe. Sharma's counsel was directed to furnish details of the parole period to the court before April 7.

Sharma had sought interim bail for three weeks but the prosecution opposed his application apprehending he might abscond or influence the witnesses. The court refused Sharma's plea for allowing him seven days custodial parole. The court directed the jail authorities that the policemen will accompany Sharma in plain clothes.``The accused (Sharma) is at liberty to attend the places at his wish in the custody of police,'' the court said.
