The Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, who was in Delhi the other day, discussed with the party leaders the details of Ms. Gandhi's visit, which obviously is part of the party's election preparations in Rajasthan. Her visit will also mark the formal launch of the ambitious RWSRP, being implemented at a cost of Rs.733 crores to cover 91 canal systems. Ms. Gandhi, who will be in Rajasthan for the second time within a span of 20 days, will address a meeting of farmers in Sumerpur town in Pali district. The Congress president was in the Rajasthan town of Ardavata in Jhunjhunu district on March 17 to unveil a statue of Rajiv Gandhi and to address a public rally organized there by the former Union Minister, Sis Ram Ola. RWSRP, which is proposed to cover eight major canal systems in the State including Gang Canal, Bhakra and Parvati, besides 37 medium and 47 minor canals, will irrigate an additional 1 lakh hectares of land in 23 districts. Repairs of 16 dams also will be carried out under the project.
