Govt. for dropping PAV link project

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM MARCH. 26. The Minister for Water Resources, T. M. Jacob, demanded the dropping of the Pamba-Achankovil-Vypar (PAV) link project, at the National Water Development Council meeting held in New Delhi today.

An official release said here that Mr. Jacob had pointed out at the Council that the project was designed to serve the interests of the Tamil Nadu alone. It would be harmful for Kerala, and hence, Kerala would never allow implementation of the project.

The Minister pointed out that Pamba and Achankovil were not inter-State rivers.

Hence, the right to decide on exploitation of the rivers fully rested with the State Government.

As rivers was a State subject as per Article 202 of the Constitution, neither the Centre nor other agencies had a right to intervene in this matter, the release added, quoting Mr. Jacob.
