Karnataka
By Our Special Correspondent
The promise came from the Karnataka Chief Minister, S. M. Krishna, during an interaction with visiting pressmen from Andhra Pradesh here on Wednesday. The visit was organised by the Andhra Pradesh Press Academy. Mr. Krishna, however, underlined the need for a pragmatic approach to the problem. Karnataka had no rancour with `our friendly neighbour' Andhra Pradesh with whom it had an excellent track record of cordial relations. However, ground realities needed to be studied. "If you are seeking 40 TMC ft or more when I am facing problems here, it may not be feasible,'' he said. The Chief Minister agreed Andhra Pradesh problem was genuine, but added: "Let us sit and talk." He was positive that the problem did have a solution and `we can work together for everybody's benefit.' Mr. Krishna praised Andhra Pradesh for its impressive strides in the irrigation sector. He would shortly emulate the example set by the Chandrababu Naidu Government in constituting Water Users' Associations.
