Chandrabhan Singh Lodhi, a priest, hailing from Uttar Pradesh had allegedly beheaded 55-year-old Alam Ahirwar on March 22 to appease the goddess on the belief that the human sacrifice would lead him to some hidden treasure. Ahirwar, also in search of hidden wealth, was a regular visitor to the temple and the priest reportedly used to perform sorcery on him, police said. Police said that during interrogation, Lodhi had said that on Saturday last both he and Ahirwar had started pooja to charm goddess Durga at the temple but when the latter bowed before the deity, the priest beheaded him with an axe. Later the priest threw the body on the railway tracks, police said. A case has been registered against the culprit under section 302 of IPC. -- PTI
