Addressing a press conference at Guruvayur after the presentation of the budget, the devaswom managing committee chairman, P. Appukuttan, and M.B. Sreekumar, member, said the queue system would be arranged inside a building to be constructed on the right side of the existing Melpathoor Auditorium. A sum of Rs. 1 crore has been allocated for the construction of the building. The first and second floors would be separated into three compartments and provided with chairs for devotees to relax. They could avail of facilities like drinking water and toilet and listen to devotional music there. The queue inside the building will lead to the main entrance of the temple. The ground floor will be left free. The budget shows a surplus of Rs. 14.73 crores with a total revenue of Rs. 55.53 crores and an expenditure of Rs. 40.80 crores. Of the total revenue, the `vazhipadu' fetches Rs. 17.55 crores and `hundi' collections Rs. 13.20 crores. The budget has a provision of Rs. 30 lakhs for construction of a building for low rent boarding facilities to devotees. The building will be constructed at the Panchajanyam complex. Another allocation of Rs. 25 lakhs has been earmarked for the construction of a building on devaswom land near the Devaswom Hospital. The ground floor of the building would be for parking facilities, while the rest would have dormitory and boarding rooms to be rented out at low rates. The budget was presented by Mr. Sreekumar at the meeting presided over by the chairman, P. Appukuttan.
