BMTC starts 'Ring Road Service'

BANGALORE MARCH 26. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) today introduced the "Bangalore Ring Road Service" (BRRS), covering the entire stretch of the Outer Ring Road from Banashankari to Hebbal (East), and from Hebbal to Banashankari (West).

The Minister for Transport, B. Ramanatha Rai, and the KSRTC Chairman, R.V. Devraj, flagged off the service at the Kempe Gowda Bus Station this morning. Initially, the BMTC will run 12 buses each in both directions on the two routes.

Route No. 500, Banashankari to Hebbal is via BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, HSR Layout, Agaram Marathahalli, Old Madras Road, Ramamurthy Nagar, and Kalyananagar. Route No. 501, Hebbal to Banashankari, will touch Lottegollahalli, Tumkur Road, Magadi Road, Ambedkar Engineering College, Kengeri Satellite Town, Mysore Road, Uttarahalli Cross, PESIT, Kamakya, and Kadirenahalli Cross. (Services will also be available in the opposite direction on both routes.)

The services under the BRRS, which will start at 6 a.m., will be available at a frequency of 30 minutes till 7.30 a.m. The frequency will be increased to once in 15 minutes in peak hours. The last service will leave the starting points at 10.40 p.m. There will be 52 stops on Route No. 500, and 53 on Route No. 501. The fare between Banashankari and Hebbal is Rs. 8.

The services will take approximately 90 minutes each, as the distance between Hebbal and Banashankari on both routes is 33 km.

The BMTC is already plying 80 buses on various stretches of the Outer Ring Road. They are Route No. 201 - Srinagar to Domlur (30 buses); 203 - Yeshwantapur to J.P. Nagar 3rd Phase (2); 373C - Bommanahalli to Kengeri Satellite Town (2); 400 - Hebbal to Ramamurthynagar (2); 401M - Yeshwantpur to Kengeri (4); 405/405A - K.G. Bus Station to K.G. Bus Station via Magadi Road and Kengeri Satellite Town (11); 410 - Bommanahalli to Jalahalli Cross (6); 411 - Banashankari to Marathahalli (1); 411A - Jayanagar to HAL Main Gate (2); MBS 1 - Konanakunte Cross to Hebbal (6); MBS 4 - Magadi Road Sunkadakatte to B. Channasandra (4); MBS 5 - Banashankari 3rd Stage, 3rd Phase to Jalahalli Cross (4), and MBS 8 - Banashankari to Kalyan Nagar (6).

The Mayor, C.M. Nagaraj, the Gandhinagar MLA, Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Principal Secretary, Transport Department, B.L. Sridhar, the Managing Director, BMTC, Upendra Tripathy, its Director (Security and Vigilance), M.F. Pasha, the General Manager, Bosekar, the Chief Traffic Manager, Dastagir Sharieff, and other officials were present at the function.
