Letters to the Editor
Sir, I was admitted to a large private hospital in Nampally, Hyderabad, a fortnight ago for fever. During my stay, I was shocked to see medical disposables such as syringes, needles, I.V. infusion sets, catheters, injection vials, bottles and plastic containers not being discarded after use. The medical waste was collected back by the pharmacy stores the next day. On enquiry, I was told that ward sisters and other departments had instructions from the medical superintendent not to discard any of the medical waste. I suspect that this waste is being used again by the hospital. It is a criminal act.
B. Ramesh,
