The Union Health Minister, Sushma Swaraj, told presspersons that the proposed centres would come up in Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal, and each hospital would have 500 beds. The Centre would bear the cost of construction, estimated at Rs. 387 crores a hospital, and also the operational cost, which would be about Rs.100 crores annually for each of them. The States' contribution would be in the form of providing free land. Mrs. Swaraj said the Centre was acquiring two mobile hospitals to provide fast aid in case of natural and man-made disasters. The units, in the form of fully equipped containers, would be stationed at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences, Bangalore. The Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation under the Ministry has short-listed four companies in Switzerland, Germany, and the U.K. for supply of the mobile hospitals.
