Rupee scales new peak

MUMBAI MARCH 27. Sustained trade and corporate dollar inflows extended rupee gains for the sixth straight session today, scaling a new 18-1/2-month peak, even as the interbank foreign exchange market braces for fresh uncertainties over a prolonged war in Iraq.

The rupee closed at 47.5350/5450 a dollar, another two paise rise from yesterday's finish of 47.5550/5650 after trading in a fairly broad range of 47.5350 and 57.5700. It opened weak at 47.56/57.
