The Commission is busy finalising contracts under a long-term cooperation programme approved last year, said Russia's Energy Minister, Igor Yusufov, who co-chairs the IGC on the Russian side. The $40-billion programme covers ongoing and new projects in energy, transportation and a host of other areas. Before the war, Russia maintained wide-ranging economic ties with Iraq and was Baghdad's largest trading partner under the United Nations oil-for-food programme. "All Russian companies that have interests in Iraq should be able to return to their projects immediately after the end of hostilities," the Russian Minister said today.
