Plane crashes into mountain

Jakarta: A Twin Otter plane with 17 people on board crashed into a mountain in Indonesia's easternmost Papua province on Thursday, police said. Rescue workers have been sent to Puncak Jaya mountain where the aircraft was believed to have crashed, a Papua police spokesman said. The fate of the 17 passengers remained unknown, he said. ``We were informed that 17 people were on the plane,'' he said. The plane, belonging to the provincial government, was on its way from Gunung Mulia to Wamena district.
