'NDA has failed to check infiltration'

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu March 27. The Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has accused the Centre of failing to check cross-border infiltration and causing the worsening of the security situation in the State.

Addressing a convention of district and block-level presidents of the Jammu province, Mr. Azad, said "though we do not want to make this an issue of the political blame-game... . at the same time the Centre cannot wash its hands of from the prevailing situation."

He said the insurgency in the Valley was checked by the Congress Government and confined to the State till the mid-nineties.

`During Congress rule, the presence of mercenaries was the lowest, but now they have swelled due to the failure of the present Central Government to check infiltration from across the border''.
