Noisy scenes over IAS officers' row

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD March 27. The Assembly witnessed noisy scenes during question hour on Thursday over the allegations and counter allegations by two senior IAS officers, Arjun Rao and Satish Chandra, regarding land deals.

The Leader of the Opposition, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the CPI(M) Floor leader, N. Narasimhaiah, moved an adjournment motion to discuss the issue but the Speaker, K. Pratibha Bharati, disallowed it. This led to a strong protest by the two parties.

The normal business of the House could be transacted only when the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, offered to make a statement.

The Congress MLA, N. Raghuveera Reddy, demanded the Speaker to suo motu institute a House Committee probe into the land deals and corruption in the Chief Minister's office (CMO) as alleged by Mr. Arjun Rao.

He alleged that the CMO was the fountainhead of corruption.

The Legislative Affairs Minister, Y. Ramakrishnudu, asked the Opposition to give a notice so that the Government could reply.
