Naidu longest serving CM

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD March 27. Come May 1 and the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, will create a record of sorts in the State by becoming the longest serving Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Naidu who took over as the Chief Minister on Sept. 1, 1995 will complete seven years and seven months in office breaking the record set by the former Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, who held the post between February 1964 and Sept 1971.

When the issue figured during the heated debate on the alleged irregularities in the assignment of expensive lands by the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, C. Arjun Rao, the Chief Minister said that it was because of the efficient and transparent governance given by his Government that the people reposed confidence in him and gave him an opportunity to serve them. "We will work as a team for giving good governance and take the control over the political system,'' he said. However, reacting strongly to Mr Naidu's remarks, the floor leader of the MIM, Asaduddin Owaisi, wanted the Chief Minister to take steps to get a good reputation. "You are committing the same mistakes which the earlier Congress governments did and try to see that you don't get the reputation as the longest serving Chief Minister who institutionalised corruption,'' Mr Owaisi said.
