Mr.Hooda says that this action on the part of the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, to "perpetuate'' the memory of his father has hurt the religious and social feelings of the public at large. According to him, these moves to demolish historical monuments and statues are "unplanned and hasty''. He has called upon the Archaeology Department to do its duty and protect the historic monuments in the best possible way. "Installation of statues of Chaudhari Devi Lal at these sites is nothing but a loss of our heritage and culture. It is a matter of great concern that statues are being given preference to our old glory and religious sentiments,'' he asserted. Referring to the recent action by the Ambala district authorities in demolishing a historic monument at Manav Chowk on the Ambala-Hisar National Highway and moves to erect a statue of Chaudhari Devi Lal there, he said that this is "shameful''. He further alleged that recently the Chautala regime reportedly removed the statue of the Goddess of Learning from the outer entry to the premises of Maharishi Dayanand University and Medical College at Rohtak which caused unrest amongst teachers, students and parents.
