Pandya killing: Cong. for transparent probe

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI MARCH 27. With the Gujarat Government deciding to seek a CBI probe into the killing of the former State Home Minister, Haren Pandya, the Congress — which was quick to ask for the same as news of the murder broke out — today insisted that all efforts ought to be made to ensure that it was ``thorough and transparent''.

Yesterday, the Congress had said that enquiry must be conducted by either a sitting judge of the High Court or the CBI. The CWC member, Ahmed Patel, condemned the killing and wondered how ordinary citizens could feel safe in a State where a former Minister could be brutally killed.

Given the stance taken by Pandya on various issues, the Congress is of the view that an enquiry into his killing should be conducted by an agency from outside the State. Also, all possible motives should be investigated to bring out the truth.
