Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Special Correspondent
Police identified the arrested person as Damodaran, an STD booth owner of Tiruvottiyur. According to the police, Damodaran had secretly married Mary of the same area some years ago and had two children. Meanwhile, his parents arranged another marriage for him with another girl. He did not reveal his first marriage to his second wife or his parents. Last month, following a wordy duel with Mary, he allegedly assaulted her and she died. Damodaran sent his family to a nearby temple and brought Mary's body home. He buried it in an unused room and had the area covered. Meanwhile, as there was no news about Mary, her sister got suspicious and informed the Tiruvottiyur police. As the police conducted enquiries, Damodaran feared he would get caught and decided to dump the body in the sea. As part of this plan, he again made his family go out and removed the body early this month. During the operation a strong stench emanated in the area. To avoid suspicion he burnt scented sticks in the house. He then packed the body in two gunny bags and dumped it in the sea. However, a neighbour, who had noticed Damodaran carrying the sacks secretly informed the police after a couple of days. Following this, the police arrested Damodaran. A police team led by the DCP (Washermanpet), A.G.Mourya, is investigating the case.
