Will not allow enemies to derail peace process: Mufti

By Shujaat Bukhari

Kupwara March 29. Asserting that the peace initiative in Jammu and Kashmir would be a movement forward, the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today called upon the people to frustrate the designs of those attempting to derail the peace process.

"They are the enemies of the people and would not be allowed to succeed," he said while addressing a rally amidst a downpour after distributing appointment letters to 202 victims of militancy in the border town of Kupwara.

Referring to the Nadimarg massacre early this week, he said those who had engineered the carnage had attempted to destabilise the situation that had started to look positive.

This was probably not in the interest of certain elements and they had committed this heinous crime to thwart the Government's initiatives. "But we will not allow these elements to succeed at any cost," he added. Asserting that his Government would steer the State from morass, the Mufti said his Government would continue to implement its `healing touch' policy.

Responding to slogans from the crowd to "identify the killers of Abdul Gani Lone" he said Mr. Lone was eliminated by those who did not want him to succeed in his courageous effort to restore peace in Kashmir and uphold the dignity and honour of the people.Referring to Kupwara District, the Mufti said that it had always remained neglected and the coalition Government would remove the injustice meted out to the people by giving focussed attention.

The aspirations of the people would be met.
