Terrorists shot dead

By Mahesh Vijapurkar

MUMBAI March 29. Three alleged terrorists, two of them Pakistanis, were shot dead in what the Mumbai Police chief, R. S. Sharma, said was an encounter on a busy main road in suburban Mumbai and linked them to a faction of the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Officers of the Crime Intelligence unit of the Mumbai police, based on a tip-off, were lying in wait for the three to come to a rendezvous to "plan and execute an incident''.

The three have been identified as Abu Sultan, chief of the southern command of the LeT and Abu Akram, both Pakistanis, and Raju, a Kashmiri.

Police said the terrorists planned to attack the Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray, and the VHP's international general secretary, Pravin Togadia, as well as some unspecified temples.
