Officers of the Crime Intelligence unit of the Mumbai police, based on a tip-off, were lying in wait for the three to come to a rendezvous to "plan and execute an incident''. The three have been identified as Abu Sultan, chief of the southern command of the LeT and Abu Akram, both Pakistanis, and Raju, a Kashmiri. Police said the terrorists planned to attack the Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray, and the VHP's international general secretary, Pravin Togadia, as well as some unspecified temples.
